Technology Planning
and Integration Office (TPIO)
The Technology Requirements, Planning and Integration Office (TPIO) leads the NOAA-wide development
of the NOAA Integrated Earth Observation and Data Management System Architecture. The Office works
through the NOAA Observing Systems Council (NOSC), which is the principal advisory body to the Under
Secretary for NOAA’s earth observation and environmental-related data management activities. The
Office provides recommendations to the NOSC on requirements, architectures, and system investments
to meet NOAA, national, and international observational and data management needs. To develop these
recommendations, the Office participates in the planning and programming phases of the annual Planning,
Programming, Budgeting and Execution System (PPBES) cycle to foster a NOAA Program to advance NOAA’s
efforts in efficiently and effectively developing its integrated architecture.
Mr. Michael Tanner, Acting Director of TPIO can be reached on the address given at the bottom of the
page.

The NOAA observing systems greatly enhance capabilities (provide real time environmental data)
of forecasting and tracking severe weather (hurricanes, thunderstorm, tornadoes, etc),
saving human lives and property damages valuing in multi billion dollars every year.
