GOES-M Update

The GOES-M Apogee Motor Firing #2, executed today at 3:16 EDT, was aborted at 11:54 into the 12 minute planned burned when the thruster flange temperature reached the abort criteria of 260 degrees centigrade. The spacecraft is now being commanded to its nominal configuration in sun acquisition mode. All other spacecraft systems are operating normally. A contingency meeting is planned for this evening to determine future firings, with a final determination projected for tomorrow morning. It appears that all future firings will be less than 12 minutes, which puts the completion of the orbit raising mission at about August 20. A more detailed report from the NASA Mission Operations Manager will be available later this evening.
