NOAA N and METOP Satellite circling the globe Initial Joint Polar System - CDA/SOCC Upgrade (IJPS-CSU)
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS) has entered into an agreement with the European Organization for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) for participation in the Initial Joint Polar System (IJPS) program. In the IJPS Agreement, NOAA and EUMETSAT agree to procure and operate their Polar-orbiting satellites in a manner beneficial to both parties and the world's meteorological community. This joint system will consist of two fully coordinated independent polar satellite systems, the NOAA Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite (POES) system and the EUMETSAT Meterological Operational Satellite (Metop). To support the IJPS program, NESDIS requires design, development, and engineering technical support to upgrade and augment the current NESDIS POES ground system at the Satellite Operations Control Center (SOCC) at Suitland, Maryland and Command and Data Acquisition (CDA) Stations at Fairbanks, Alaska and Wallops, Virginia.
