GOES
Operation Ground Equipment Overview
The primary function
of the GOES I-M Operations Ground Equipment (OGE) is to ingest data
from the GOES I-M Imager and Sounder instruments; retransmit radiometrically
corrected, gridded (Imager data only), and earth located data to the
GOES spacecraft in the GVAR format for broadcast to primary users;
process the GVAR data stream (primarily at Suitland) to obtain data
needed for orbit and attitude determination. monitor the quality of
the broadcast data; The principal elements of the OGE involved in
the performance of these functions are: the Sensor Processing System
(SPS), the Product Monitor (PM), and the Orbit and Attitude Tracking
System (OATS). The SPS is responsible for instrument data preprocessing,
spacecraft ranging, instrument star sense data processing, periodic
Image Motion Compensation (IMC) and servo error data extraction for
transmission to OATS, and GVAR data formatting. The PM is responsible
for GVAR data quality monitoring, and extracting orbit and attitude
data from the GVAR data stream. The OATS is responsible for orbit
and attitude-related computations and processing, and supporting the
GOES I-M Telemetry and Command System (GIMTACS) in generating spacecraft
command schedules.
