GOES 8 Status

Operational (GOES-East at 75E W )
  • Launched April 13, 1994
  • Spacecraft Attitude & Orbit Control Electronics (AOCE)
    • Several RAM locations Corrupted by Electrostatic Discharge April 18, 1996, Using AOCE #2
  • Sounder E/W Mirror Motor (August 1994): 1 of 2 windings has Intermittent Open Circuit. Doesn’t Cause Data Loss.
  • Electronics on Momentum Wheel #1 failed (January 9, 1997) using redundant wheel (Need both remaining wheels)
  • Sounder Filter Wheel Motor torque anomaly (Temporarily slow down) has occurred on Oct 29, 97 and Feb 18, 98.
  • Primary Earth Sensor failed Oct 27, 1998, now using redundant sensor
  • Power Amplifier C failed May 27, 2001 – 2 for 3 redundancy
  • Taken out of service (End of Life) - April 3, 2003
