This diagram shows
the flow of imager and sounder data originating on the GOES R satellite.
The GOES imager and sounder sensors take atmospheric measurements.
This raw data is sent to NOAA's ground station at Wallops VA, where
it is processed. From Wallops the processed data is sent back up to
GOES where it is broadcast in a global beam. Questions are what data
compression can be done on-board and what at Wallops? The talks address
possible approaches to compressing the data.
